Air Liquide in South America

Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay: Air Liquide operates in South American countries, experiencing economic development and growing demand for several sectors. Having been present on the continent for more than 70 years, Air Liquide has developed its main businesses and acquired extensive knowledge of the local markets.

HEALTHCARE: A VERY DYNAMIC MARKET

While the population is growing and aging at the same time, the healthcare sector is booming in South America. Air Liquide Healthcare is able to seize the opportunities of this high-potential market, thanks to long-term strengths: a proven expertise in the continuum of care, as well as local teams familiar with healthcare systems and reimbursement policies in each country. Furthermore, Air Liquide deploys a targeted acquisition strategy, especially in the fast-growing business of home healthcare. As a leading player in Argentina and in Brazil, Air Liquide Healthcare has reported double digit annual growth in the area.

INDUSTRY: A SOLID DEVELOPMENT

Supported by a long-term vision, Air Liquide continues to roll out its operations in South America. In the past two years, the Group has started five air separation units located in Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. These investments are essential to conquer new markets. Simultaneously, Air Liquide is reinforcing its partnerships with its historical customers. The Group announced a new investment for Axion Energy Argentina, a subsidiary of Bridas Corporation and a leading refiner in Argentina, to expand its long-term supply of hydrogen. Air Liquide will invest around 55 million euros in a second hydrogen production unit (Steam Methane Reformer - SMR) for Axion. Carbon dioxide (CO2), a by-product of the production process, will also be marketed for use by numerous local customers, mainly for the food and beverage market.

“Air Liquide is leveraging its historical presence and local experienced teams in South America in order to seize the numerous opportunities for sustainable growth, while mitigating the risks related to developing economies.”
Rui Coelho,
Head of South America
